Review & Certification

Review & Certification is the final training in the teacher training pathway, consisting of two 90-minute sessions with review/writing before and after each of these sessions. In this highly individualized one-on-one training, you and your mentor will explore and assess the skills and qualities you’ve cultivated as a teacher. You will describe the role of the teacher and the ethos of MBSR with your mentor, as expressed with your clients, your community, your colleagues and yourself. Together, you will define next steps for your ongoing development. You will leave with a plan for ongoing development and a means of collegial support for yourself in teaching.

You will have been assigned to a specific mentor during Mentorship Cycle One and Mentorship Cycle Two. Applicants receive mentorship from Rebecca Eldridge or Margaret Fletcher, Senior MBSR Teacher Trainers. Consideration is given to requests for a specific mentor.

During this training you will—

  • Complete a written reflection, expressing your understanding of teaching MBSR, to include:
  • the role of the MBSR teacher in the classroom and beyond
  • your own lived expression of the ethos of MBSR in life, as a teacher and as a mindfulness professional
  • modifications made to the curriculum, to address the particular needs of your teaching populations and contexts
  • identifying your developing qualities and skills as a teacher, using the MBI-TAC/MBI-TLC as a guide, in a form that is beneficial to you
  • Assess specific remaining aspects of your teaching as needed, using the MBI-TAC as a guide
  • Identify teachable moments that may have been missed or met only partially, and explore insights about such moments
  • Define next steps for ongoing development in teaching with your mentor
  • Determine a means for continuing a relationship with a mentor or experienced peer teacher

At the end of this training you will be able to—

  • Self-assess your teaching skills and competencies, toward your ongoing development and growth
  • Continue development of MBSR teaching competencies
  • Express and embody your personal and professional ethos of mindfulness, in your work and through your teaching
  • Hold yourself to an exemplary standard of professional practice as a teacher and as a mindfulness practitioner
  • Readiness to continue teaching MBSR confirmed by East Coast Mindfulness

NOTE: Your mentor and you may decide that teaching additional cycles of MBSR and/or additional mentoring before certification would benefit your teaching.
