Mentorship Cycle Three

Program Overview

Mentorship Cycle Three is the final formal cycle of mentorship prior to Certification in Teaching MBSR, taken as you teach your third (or fourth or fifth) MBSR course. In this concentrated mentorship series, you will have four 60- to 90-minute sessions with your mentor, to identify and develop competencies specific to you and your teaching. To position you for independence as a teacher, there is a particular focus on self-assessment of skills and growth areas, through reflection, writing, and reviewing video recordings of your teaching. At the end of this cycle, your mentor will provide you with a written assessment of your development and competency as a teacher relative to the six domains of competence described in the Mindfulness-Based Interventions Teaching Assessment Criteria.

Training Goals:

During this training you will—

Assess your teaching using the MBI-TLC as a guide

Apply learnings from the Inquiry Intensive course

Identify skills and challenges experienced in the live dynamic of the classroom

Fine-tune areas of specifically targeted areas of your teaching, such as learning activities, classroom materials, practice recordings

Explore challenges, insights, and discoveries about the intersection of practice and teaching, through deepening inquiry with your mentor

Identify remaining development work to be pursued, independently or with your mentor’s guidance, prior to final certification

Reflect on and assess your development and competency as an MBSR teacher

Prerequisites

Successful completion of Mentorship Cycle 2

Successful completion of Inquiry Intensive course

Required Technology and Preparation:

High-speed internet connection

Please, no phones

Ensure that your computer is situated on a stable surface (instead of resting on your lap, etc.)

Video and microphone capability (so that you can be seen and heard)

A place for practice that allows for being undisturbed

Current version of Zoom installed

The cost of this program is US$900.

Before applying for Mentorship Cycle Three, you will have arranged for teaching an 8-week MBSR course in a specific location over a specified set of dates. It is important to apply at least two months in advance of the specific dates of your upcoming class. This ensures adequate time for preparation and for you and your mentor to agree on a meeting schedule.

In addition to everything you have achieved to date, you can now say that you are completing your certification in teaching MBSR.

What is the time commitment for taking Mentorship Cycle Three?

Along with teaching your third MBSR course, you will spend time managing/reviewing class videos and materials, and writing reflectively before and after MBSR class sessions. You should be prepared to spend at least 3 hours per week, beyond MBSR class sessions and mentorship meetings.

What if I have to miss a session?

You and your mentor will establish a meeting schedule that works for each of you. If you need to adjust the schedule, please be in touch with your mentor with enough time to reschedule.

What if I’m not technologically savvy?

You do not have to be a technology whiz to participate; however, a certain level of technology know-how is assumed (for instance, it is assumed that you have a modern desktop or laptop and stable internet connection, and that you know how to work on the computer you will be using during the training).

Are continuing credits available for this training?

There are currently no credits available for this training.
